Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:

and the government shall be upon his shoulder:

and his name shall be called

Wonderful, Counsellor,

The mighty God,

The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

For unto us - For our benefit.

A child is born– the promised Son – God forever keeps His promises. AMEN!

A Son is given - The Messiah is the gift of the God of love.  God voluntarily gave His Son to be a   sacrifice for the sins of the world. – What a wonderful message to share with the children during this time.

And the government shall be upon his shoulder - He should be King. – Is He King of your hearts today?

And his name shall be called - He will justly bear this name.

Wonderful - to separate, to distinguish, or to make great. – We have experienced this Wonderful Lord all year through many medical difficulties He sustains us.

Counsellor - The Septuagint translates this phrase, ‘The angel of the mighty counsel.’

The Chaldee, ‘The God of wonderful counsel.’

The Mighty God - ‘The mighty God of ages.’ This is one, and but one out of many, of the instances in which the name God is applied to the Messiah.  He enables, encourages & enlightens us. We are so privileged to be serving the Mighty God.

The Everlasting Father - Literally, it is the Father of eternity.

The Prince of Peace - He will be a peaceful prince. His reign will be to put an end to wars, and to restore harmony and order to the nations. – Only He can give peace to our souls in the midst of a world without peace.

 

As we go into this season of joy our prayer for ourselves and you is that we will remember that this, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace, is why we celebrate this time of the year. That God would present opportunities for all of us to share this Wonder of the ages with others around us.
